Over the years gear gets destroyed when you are in the mountains everyday. There is a constant battle between not having enough gear and bringing to much. This is otherwise known as ultra light or not. Gear goes into multiple sub categories like base camping, day trips and on international travel.
The most important thing to know about gear is different weather means different situations. Knowing the forecast ahead of time is always good but what is more important is what you have if things go bad.
When you are going out on a day trip and you don’t have to worry about getting your feet wet.
But when you are out on a seven day ski traverse every liter of backpack space matters.
Below I’ve categorized all of the gear into four separate groups. First is the Hardware which is anything off the body from Snowboard Boots to Skins. Second is Layers which fluctuates with both weather and camping. The Third is the backpack and anything that I would have inside of it. And the last is Camping and all the gear I used to survive -40 in a summer sleeping bag.
So weather you are building an Igloo in Japan to save money or using a ski plan to access the NZ hut system I hope this helps. As time goes on I plan on adding new content so check it out often. If you want me to chat about a specific topic the contact me. Thanks for visiting the website.
