The Khibiny Mountains of Russia are a beautiful yet relatively unknown mountain range in the Arctic North with amazing ski touring options off the road. With the Russian Border 2 hours from my doorstep in Finland and with another 3 hours invested you’re at the base of the Khibiny Mountains of Russia. What was once a super volcano as now eroded away into hundreds of peaks with just a few roads to get ski touring access. The culture is possibly the wildest I’ve been to but people are nice and the terrain though not the biggest is fun. I like to say it is 1/3 the price of Northern Norway but it is also 1/3 the mountains. The Khibiny Mountains offer fun ski touring and the area is VERY quiet.
