With the snow finally improving in the Khibney Mountains Ilkka and I looked at the maps and decided to check out some steep couloirs about an hour and a half away from the car. The weather conditions were pretty bad visibility wise so we decided this would be the best place to go and be able to see. After a long mellow skin up a valley and to the base of the line before switching to bootpacking and making our way up.
Once at the top of the line and only a few meters before the summit ridge we strapped it and made our way down the steep line finding stable and soft conditions along the way.Once on the apron we traversed a few minutes to get out of the fall line of a small cliff before making big open turns to the valley below.Once at the bottom of the basin we took one final bootpack up the ridgeline to access another bowl and a top to bottom run into the valley below. The couloir we rode is just behind my splitboard below. The next day we had to leave and with the weather clearing we decided to head over to 25km ski resort and grab a halfday ticket. We were there when the resort first opened and we had a few laps on the open faces all to ourselves before more people started showing up.As the day went on we just traversed further and further out of the resort having massive open lines in amazing conditions, this was the day I was looking forward to.By noon we had barely touched the resort but had to head back to Finland and it was going to be about 5 hours. It had been a successful trip back to the Khibney mountains and though the conditions weren’t great at first it was still fun riding around and we already had plans for the next season. Huge thanks to Ilkka for an amazing trip!!!
